Judy Skillin

Personal:
Has two sons and a daughter-in-law; proud new grandmother who is very excited at the new direction her life will take; has been a member of NRBC for over 26 years

Hobbies & Interests:
Avid golfer and bridge player; enjoys fun on the water

Judy is a Registered Nurse, a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. (At the time it was the second oldest nursing school in the U.S.) After graduation, she had experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing at both St. Luke's and St Mary's Hospitals. Later she worked at Children's Hospital (CH) for 25 years where she had a variety of positions including staff nurse, Asst. Director of Nursing, Director of Inservice Education and Director of Quality Assurance (Quality Improvement), Risk Management and Safety. While at CH, Judy was instrumental in the formation of the Richmond Area Healthcare Quality Assurance Association and served as its President. She also attended the University of Virginia's Infection Control Practitioner Program as well as continuing her education by attending JS Reynolds Community College.

Upon retirement from CH, she joined the staff of the Virginia State Department Of Health, Department of Healthcare Quality as a medical facilities inspector for the Complaint Unit. This involved investigating care complaints of hospitals, nursing homes and home health agencies.

After leaving the Dept. of Health, God called Judy to become a Parish Nurse. She attended the course at Caring Congregations, PSCE, in Richmond graduating in the Spring of 2000. She has been the PN at North Run Baptist for 2 years. Judy's ministry as a PN consists of being a counselor, providing information on health issues or referrals to health care agencies, and/or by having health educational programs. Preventive measures consists of giving flu shots, or BP (blood pressure) monitoring. (BP screening is conducted every Wednesday night 5:45-6:30 p.m.)

Judy maintains office hours every Wednesday from 10-2 p.m. Everyone is invited to come by for a BP reading or just for a chat.

Judy joins approx. 200 area nurses of 22 denominations in the ministry of Parish Nursing. The Parish Nurse Mission is to sow seeds of wellness so that their congregation can be well in Body, Mind and Spirit.
