North Run Baptist Church began a weekday ministry to preschool children with the opening of a church kindergarten in September, 1970, for four and five year olds under the leadership of Mrs. Alma Wilson, Principal. The school was started with twelve children coming from as far away as Mechanicsville, Montpelier, Ashland, and the far West End of Richmond. We presently have enrolled seventy-eight children for 2002-2003.
During the past thirty years, we have been fortunate to have Mrs. Alma Wilson, Mrs. Jean Anderson, Mrs. Pat Snipe, Mrs. Sandra Kidwell, and Mrs. Peggy Lafoon serve as Directors of our Pre-Kindergarten. Our current director is Mrs. Kim Shumate.
The Pre-Kindergarten was constituted as a non-profit organization and as an extension of the community missions and educational ministry of North Run Baptist Church. Its purpose is to provide a high quality preschool education in a Christ-centered environment.
North Run Baptist Pre-Kindergarten employs a very flexible curriculum with enough structure and routine to give children a sense of security.
In our classes, emphasis is put on social adjustment, or learning to get along well with others. Learning the alphabet and numbers is incorporated into daily activities.
Class size is limited so that each child can receive individual attention.
All our staff has had training and experience in working with young children.
