April 2003
It seems like March came in more like a lamb this year and left like a lion. Can you believe that we had snow on March 30? None the less, we are so excited that spring is in the air. It is hard to believe that it is April already, and we have less than two months left of pre-kindergarten. It must be true that "time flies when you're having fun". We certainly have plenty of fun in the three year old classes. We had a fun - filled March and are looking forward to even more fun and enriching activities in April.
Here is a sneak preview of the thematic units we have planned during the month of April:
April 1 - 3 The True Meaning of Easter
April 8 - 10 Easter Eggs, Jelly Beans, and the Easter Bunny
April 15 - 17 SPRING BREAK
April 22 - 25 Noah's Ark ; Zebra Day on April 24th
April 30 - May 1 Weather and Rain ; Cinco de Mayo on May
We have enjoyed learning about the true meaning of Easter and look forward to more Easter fun next week. Remember, each class will participate in an Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday, April 10th, beginning around 9:20 a.m. Then, we will culminate the day with the Easter parties, which will begin around 10:15 a.m. We will dismiss one hour early at 10:45 a.m. Spring Break is the following week and pre - kindergarten will be closed April 15 - 17.
When we return from Spring Break, we will enjoy a unit concentrating on the bible story, Noah's Ark. This is usually many children's favorite bible story. All children love animals and rainbows. We have many activities planned to enhance the telling of the story.
On April 24, we will celebrate Zebra Day. The zebra is a fascinating animal, and it sailed on Noah's Ark. We will complete a "zebra" craft and will eat a "zebra" snack. Please allow your child to dress in the colors black and white on this day.
Don't forget that we will add an extra day to our week during the week of April 22. We will have school on Friday, April 25, to make up one of our many snow days.
During the last week of April we will learn what is meant by the saying "April showers, bring May flowers". We will enjoy a unit on weather, concentrating on clouds and rain. On Thursday, May 1 , we will travel south to Mexico and will celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We are planning to eat a Mexican treat, make some Mexican music, and make our own "make and take pinata". We are asking that each child bring one empty (and clean) Pringles can (with lid) to school by Friday, April 25. We will use the cans to make maracas. Also, if anyone has a large sombrero that we could borrow, we would greatly appreciate it. Please let your child's teacher know if you have one we may use. We would also like the children to dress in the colors red, white, and green for our fiesta. Thanks!
Sincerely,
The Three-year-old Teachers
